About the Role
We are looking for a highly organised and proactive technician to join our friendly, supportive team. This is a key role within our Design & Technology faculty, helping ensure that practical lessons across food and textiles run smoothly, safely and efficiently.
You’ll play an essential part in preparing materials, equipment and classroom spaces for practical lessons. You’ll also take responsibility for keeping workrooms, machinery and equipment clean, safe and well-maintained, working closely with staff to support high-quality learning throughout the department.
Being organised is vital — you’ll need to stay ahead of the timetable, make sure rooms are fully prepared for each practical session, and manage resources so that staff and students always have what they need.

Key Responsibilities
  • Proactively prepare and set up materials, equipment and resources for practical lessons throughout the day.
  • Check the timetable regularly to ensure teaching rooms are ready ahead of each food, textiles and D&T session.
  • Maintain a clean, safe and well-organised working environment across all practical spaces.
  • Assist with the safe running, checking and basic maintenance of specialist equipment.
  • Apply Health & Safety procedures consistently across the department.
  • Support teachers with practical preparation to help raise student engagement and attainment.

Skills & Experience
  • Previous experience in a similar technician role is helpful but not essential.
  • Knowledge of food, textiles or broader Design & Technology would be an advantage.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise effectively are essential.
  • A proactive, positive attitude and a willingness to work as part of a warm, welcoming team.

If you enjoy hands-on work, like keeping things running smoothly behind the scenes, and would love to be part of a friendly, supportive department, we’d be delighted to hear from you.

We can offer you:
  • Term time only working
  • Free parking – EV Chargers available on site
  • Monday – Friday (No weekends)
  • Competitive local government pension scheme
  • Full training and support will be given for the successful candidate
