Miss Birkby (Head of Careers) – BBC Bitesize Careers Tour 2024
On Friday 18th October Fulford School welcomed the BBC’s Bitesize Careers Tour 2024 to deliver an exciting and engaging session to all students in Years 7, 8 & 9. The tour aims to inspire 1000’s of students nationwide by providing invaluable career insights and guidance from industry professionals to help students explore their future job prospects.
The interactive sessions offered a fantastic opportunity for students to hear from a range of professionals discussing a variety of topics including their individual career journey; relevant qualifications and training routes including apprenticeships and technician roles; personal anecdotes; advice on gaining work experience; as well as the key soft skills needed in the workplace and how to identify and develop these.
The sessions were hosted by Ross Fiddes (BBC Sports Presenter/Reporter), with a guest panel of speakers employed in the local area – David Ward (BBC York – Journalist and York City Football Commentator); Maisie Wood (York Barbican – Senior Events Manager); and Ambar Hughes (Countryside Ranger, North York Moors National Park).
We thank Ross, David, Maisie, Ambar, Charlie, Richard, Euan, Gareth, Josh, Emma and Sophie for their time and insight making this an unforgettable day for Fulford students.
Students left the session inspired by the variety of opportunities available; feeling empowered to pursue their passions; and how, with a little hard work, they too could land their dream job.
