Why Support Us?
Fulford School has served its local community and beyond for 60 years. We are committed to providing an outstanding education for all our pupils. Our values are strong and clear. They take us beyond academic excellence to creating an environment where all our young people can thrive through the opportunities and provision we offer.
The anticipated central government funding is expected to barely suffice for our staffing and maintenance expenses. York is one of the most underfunded authorities nationwide, and Fulford School faces a disparity in funding when compared to similar schools in other regions. Despite our meticulous budgeting to maintain our status as one of the highest-achieving schools nationally, the current school budget falls short of facilitating the desired enhancements to the student experience that we aim to provide.
We have established a fund-raising committee as a sub committee of our governing body. Its aim is to ensure any generous donations have a maximum impact on the lives of the students at the school. The aim is to enhance the school environment and to further support a wide range of enrichment and extra-curricular activities.

Project Name: Fulford School Launches Appeal as Students Miss Out Following Minibus Theft

Fulford School has launched a community fundraising appeal after the theft of its school minibus — warning that students are already missing out on valuable opportunities as a result.
The minibus, stolen from the school site earlier this year, was a crucial part of school life, enabling students to attend sports fixtures, take part in trips and access a wide range of enrichment activities. Since its loss, the school has been forced to hire transport at a cost of approximately £350 per journey, typically several times each week — a level of expense that is not sustainable long-term.
Russell Harris, Headteacher at Fulford School, said: “This is already having a direct impact on our students. We are beginning to reduce some opportunities because we simply cannot continue to fund transport at this rate. Without a long-term solution, more students will inevitably miss out.”
A replacement minibus is expected to cost around £50,000. However, insurance has covered only a small proportion of this — just £10,000 — leaving the school with a significant funding gap.
“The minibus is far more than transport,” Mr Harris added. “It enables students to take part, represent their school and build confidence through experiences that are a vital part of their education. We are determined to restore those opportunities.”
Mr Wardell, Head of PE, emphasizes: “Extra-curricular sport is a vital part of a student’s school experience, promoting teamwork, confidence and resilience. The loss of the minibus has already affected our ability to run fixtures and activities, and we are keen to restore these opportunities as quickly as possible.”
Student leaders at Fulford have taken a leading role in launching the appeal, highlighting the importance of these experiences to young people: “The minibus is essential to student life at Fulford. It allows us to take part in activities that build confidence, friendships and memories. Without it, fewer students are able to take part, and that has a real impact.”
The school is already working closely with students to develop a range of fundraising initiatives. However, broader community support will be essential, and Fulford is now calling on local community and businesses to support the appeal through donations, sponsorship and fundraising initiatives.
“We know the strength of our community,” said Mr Harris. “Whether through a donation, business sponsorship or simply sharing our message, every contribution will help ensure our students do not continue to miss out on the opportunities they deserve. We are incredibly grateful in advance for the support we know our community will show. Any contribution — large or small — is hugely welcomed and appreciated, and will make a real difference to our students.””
